Let’s turn our attention to Detroit, Michigan, a city known as the home of America’s auto industry. It is a city that has fallen on hard times. Detroit suffers from high crime and many people cannot find jobs, much less good ones. Many houses got so bad they were torn down. Schools are so bad that 90 percent of eighth grade students cannot read well. Detroit is a city of hurting people who need hope.
That’s why our missionaries, Travis and Jennifer Whittaker, moved to Detroit in 2015 with their four children and planted Mile City Church – they wanted to offer the hope that only trust in Jesus Christ can produce. Travis and Jennifer want to see people transformed by the Gospel who will then be empowered to change Detroit for the better.
Part of the support that enables Travis and Jennifer to serve in Detroit comes from our church’s Cooperative Program giving – that’s why they are “our” missionaries.
Travis and Jennifer have seen many people find hope through Jesus. One woman we’ll call Brenda was alone after her husband left her and her parents died. Travis and Jennifer were able to give her hope and show her that Christ is always there for her.
Let’s pray now for Travis and Jennifer. Let’s thank God for their ministry and just celebrate that they are offering hope in a place where hope is so desperately needed.
